KOPRI rock smaples from the polar regions

KOPRI have started storing Antarctic rock samples from the King George Island, based on the geological surveys supported from the Sejong Station. Since opening of the Dasan Station in 2006, arctic samples were added to the collection. After having Antarctic continental samples from the Victoria Land since 2014 when Jang Bogo Station opened, the KOPRI geological collection covers wide varieties of lithologies and geological ages. The collection also includes samples from subarctic such as Patagonia and from very recent expedition to Greenland. Now 0000 specimens are listed in this data base.

Accessibility of rock samples

Sedimentary rocks from Antarctic and Arctic areas will be made public first in 2018 and the others will be open subsequently. Opened samples will be able to be loaned through reviewing of “Sample Request Form”.
